Hotplate question

Do y'all suppose (or even better, know) whether a hotplate can be relied upon to heat a pot of liquid to 350 degrees? Is that demanding too much from something that I think is intended principally to boil? Would brand matter in this?

Thanks.

LASERBEAK WOULD KNOW
The small hotplates I've owned (while in school) have only been strong enough to heat coffee well - it'll burn your hand if you touch it, but not boil the coffee. Don't know if there are more powerful ones out there these days.
Thanks; not what I wanted to hear, of course, but definitely what I needed to know.
:( Sorry.

What about camping gear?
I wouldn't think a commercial hotplate intended for boiling water would attain 350°—water boils at 212° so it would be overkill to go much beyond 220 or 230. You'd probably need a lab hotplate to get to where you want to go. They could reach over 400°
